More Information on learning the Classical Guitar
When a student learns the Classical Guitar, it doesn't mean that he/she is limited to playing a certain type of music. It simply means learning to read music and play the instrument with proper techniques in order to fully exploit what the guitar can offer: playing solo pieces with melody, rich harmony and bass (as what a pianist can do), as an accompaniment to another instrument (eg: flute and guitar, violin and guitar, voice and guitar etc) or as part of a guitar ensemble.
What I teach:
I have a firm belief that developing a good foundation is extremely important when a child learns an instrument. For a beginner guitar student, this will involve a good posture, holding the instrument properly, reading music and good right hand/left hand techniques.
All these are possible with a good range of activities during lesson, using appropriate and attractive music and effective practices during the week. There are a few method books that I use and a wide range of repertoire of music that I choose from accordingly to suit the age/interest of the student.
I write down notes to students after each lesson so that they will know what to practice at home and parents can also help with their practice.
While learning the techniques of playing the instrument, students will also learn about musical ideas, how to make a piece of music interesting and learn how to perform.
When students have reached a sufficient playing and music reading skills, there will be opportunities to play in ensembles (groups such as guitar duo, guitar trio, guitar quartet or even a guitar orchestra). Playing in an ensemble is extremely useful for developing musicianship and also it will be fun to be able to play and perform as a group.

A few notes for steady improvement:
- Regular practices during the week are necessary to improve your playing. Lesson time is for learning new things and revising/improving on what was taught previously. Practices during the week will help to reinforce what has been taught and this will help you progress steadily.
- Learning to play a musical instrument is hugely rewarding but there will be challenges along the way. Parental help is very important when a child learns an instrument, such as helping to set up regular practice routine or helping them to overcome hurdles.
