Mandarin Class for Primary and High School Students
In Sok Yi's Mandarin class, students learn the second language through a variety of activities in a fun way through songs, games, acting and art. With this age group, there will be 2 focus in the class, oral and writing.
In oral, students will learn basic vocabulary, recognise basic questions and answer in proper sentences, hold simple conversation and sing songs/nursery rhymes in Mandarin.
In writing, students will learn Pin Yin, recognise Chinese characters and write them with the correct strokes.
A big focus in my class is for the students to be cumulative with the knowledge they learn. I understand that for students who are only exposed to the Mandarin language once a week in class, it can sometimes be challenging remembering words, phrases or sentences. Therefore, in my class, while students are regularly learning new words/phrases etc, we are also constantly revisiting what they have learnt before, applying them in day to day conversations and embellishing their sentences with new words that they have just learnt.
Children also learn about Chinese Festivals; the legents, stories, cultures behind each Festival and the types of cuisine that are unique to each Festival.
